--- title: "How the Post page works in the Website Builder" updated: 2026-05-21 --- # How the Post page works in the Website Builder > **Notice** > > This article covers the Website Builder, which is continuously evolving based on customer feedback. Some details seen here may differ from what you see in-app. Your website is made up of different page types, blocks, and content elements that work together to display your newsletter content. This article focuses on the post-specific features in the Website Builder — the Post page, the Post block, and post cards — and how they connect to give you control over how your posts appear on your site. --- ## How post content flows through the Website Builder Before diving into each individual piece, it helps to understand how they relate to each other: - The **Post page** is the dynamic page on your site where individual posts are displayed. - The **Post block** lives on the Post page and is what actually renders your post content. - **Post cards** are the individual card layouts used when displaying a list or grid of posts, like a ‘Keep Reading’ section or a posts archive. Each layer builds on the one above it. Customizing how your posts look across your site means working across all three at different points. --- ## The Post page The Post page is a dynamic page in the Website Builder that displays the web version of an individual newsletter post. It automatically pulls in your published web posts and updates on its own, you don't need to do anything each time a new post goes live. The Post page is found under **Dynamic Pages** in the pages menu. Dynamic pages pull content directly from your publication and update automatically, powered by a specific dynamic block that determines what content is displayed. For a full overview of page types in the Website Builder, see [Using pages in the Website Builder](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/33699539470615). ### How to access the Post page 1. From the left panel, go to **Website > Builder**. 2. In the left icons menu, click the **Pages** icon. 3. Under **Dynamic Pages**, select **Post**. ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/40646808701847) > **Pro Tip** > > If the Post page isn't listed, click on **\+ Add page** to add it. The pages included on your site depend on the choices you made during Website Builder onboarding. ### Customization options for the Post page The Post page supports a range of layout customizations — adding sections, adjusting spacing, and editing elements like the post header, comments section, and page navigation — though all posts share the same template design. Three specific style properties are controlled at the Post page level rather than in the Post Builder: - **Background color**: Set by clicking on the page background and adjusting the fill in the right design panel. - **Text color**: Set within the Post content block on the Post page. - **Link color**: Set within the Post content block on the Post page. Everything else inside your post content (including fonts, spacing, images, buttons) comes from the Post Builder's Style tab. For a full breakdown of which settings live where, see [How post styling works across email and web](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/38837333313559). > **Reminder** > > If you want your email and web posts to share the same background, text, or link colors, you'll need to mirror those settings in both the Post Builder and the Website Builder. --- ## The Post block The Post block is the content block on the Post page that dynamically renders each post's content. In the editor, it appears as a lorem ipsum placeholder, and this is intentional, as the block pulls in live post content when viewed on your actual site. ### Content group types The Post block supports several content group types, which control what content it displays: - **Archive**: Displays a paginated archive of past posts. This is the only group type that supports pagination. - **Latest**: Displays your most recent posts. - **Free selection**: Lets you manually select specific posts to display. - **Recommendations**: Displays recommended posts. - **Tag page**: Displays all posts associated with a specific content tag. - **Author page**: Displays all posts attributed to a specific author. ### Filtering posts by tags When using the **Tag page** group type, or any group type that supports tag filtering, you can filter the Post block by multiple content tags. Use the AND/OR toggle to control how those tags are applied: - **AND**: Only posts that have all of the selected tags will be displayed. - **OR**: Posts that have any of the selected tags will be displayed. This gives you more precise control over what content surfaces in a given Post block, without needing to create separate pages for every tag combination. ### Working with the Post block in the editor When you click on the Post block on the canvas, you can adjust its settings from the design panel on the right. For help identifying and selecting the right element, especially when working with nested blocks on the Post page, see [How layers work in the beehiiv Website Builder](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/36109458207255). ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/40646746550167) > **Tech Note** > > he Post block is a core part of dynamic pages like the Tag page and Author page as well, not just the Post page. When you customize those pages in the Website Builder, you're working with the same underlying block type. --- ## Post cards Post cards define the visual structure of individual post entries when they appear in a list or grid. For example, in a ‘Keep Reading’ section at the bottom of a post, or in a posts archive on your homepage. In the Website Builder's insert panel, post cards are found under **Post blocks**. You can add them to any page where you want to display a collection of posts, not just the Post page itself. ### What post cards include A post card is made up of configurable elements that control both its layout and the content it displays: - **Post card container**: The outer wrapper for the card, with settings for flex direction, gap, border, border radius, and more. - **Content elements**: Title, subtitle, image, tags, authors, timestamp, and premium badge. - **Metadata separators**: Dot ( • ) or slash ( / ) components used to style metadata like author and date. - **Keep Reading section**: A default recommended posts component that renders three post cards in a row, added automatically when you include a recommendations group in a Post block. ### How post card layout works Post cards use the same card editor as other card types in the Website Builder. You can customize the layout and styling of your post cards (including image position, detail level, spacing, and colors) and those changes apply to all post cards across your site at once. For a full walkthrough of card layout options, style settings, and the action menu, see [Editing cards in the Website Builder](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/40640674836887). ### Adding post cards to a page To add post cards to a website page: 1. Click on the **\+ icon** in the left panel, then under **Templates**, select **Blocks**.  2. Click on **Posts** from the category list on the left.  3. Click a template to select it, then click **Next**.  ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/40646746551447) You can also insert blocks directly from the Layers menu, see [How layers work in the beehiiv Website Builder](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/36109458207255) for details. For a broader overview of the sections, blocks, and elements available in the Website Builder, see [Customizing your site in the Website Builder](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/29745846234647). --- ## Previewing your post page There are two ways to preview how your post page will look with real content: - **From the Post Builder**: Click **Preview** in the top-right corner and select **Web view**. - **From the Website Builder**: Click **Publish** in the upper right, then select **Preview draft site**. A modal will appear where you can select a published post to simulate on your Post page. > **Note** > > Only published posts are available to select in the Website Builder preview modal. --- ## Current limitations - **Post page design:** All posts share the same Post page template. You cannot set a unique design per individual post. - **Dynamic field editing:** Certain fields on post cards, like author name and publish date, are locked because they pull in live data automatically. - **Card style templates:** The ability to save a post card style as a reusable template is not available at this time, though it is on the roadmap. --- ## Frequently asked questions about post pages and post cards **Why does my Post page look different from my other pages?** The Post page uses a combination of styling from the Post Builder and the Website Builder. If something looks off, check whether the background, text, or link color needs to be updated in the Website Builder, as those three properties don't carry over from the Post Builder automatically. See [How post styling works across email and web](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/38837333313559) for the full breakdown. **Can I show posts on pages other than the Post page?** Yes. You can add a Post block or post cards to any page on your site using the insert panel. This is a common way to feature recent posts on your homepage or create a custom archive page. **What's the difference between the Post block and a post card?** The Post block renders the full content of an individual post, the body of your newsletter. Post cards display a visual summary of a post, like a thumbnail, title, and subtitle, used in grids and lists. They serve different purposes and are both available to add from the insert panel. **Can I paginate my post archive?** Yes, but only when the Post block is set to the archive group type. Other group types like latest or free selection do not support pagination. **Where do I go to change the fonts in my web post?** Fonts are controlled in the Post Builder's Style tab, not the Website Builder. See [How post styling works across email and web](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/38837333313559) for a full reference of where each setting lives. **How do AND/OR tag filters work on a Post block?** When filtering a Post block by multiple content tags, the AND setting shows only posts that have every selected tag, while OR shows posts that have any of the selected tags. You can toggle between the two directly in the Post block settings.
