--- title: "How to create and use product tags" updated: 2026-06-22 --- # How to create and use product tags > **Notice** > > Available to users on [paid beehiiv plans](https://www.beehiiv.com/pricing) for publications using the [Website Builder](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/33509520853399). As functionality evolves based on customer feedback, some details shown here may differ slightly from what you see in-app. Product tags let you label and organize [digital products you've created](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/36315392222615) by category or topic. Once assigned, tags work as filters in the Website Builder, letting you control exactly which products appear in a Products block on any page of your site. --- ## What you can do with product tags - **Organize your catalog** by grouping products with shared themes, topics, or audiences. - **Filter the Products block** in the Website Builder to show only products matching one or more tags on a specific page or section. - **Build targeted storefronts** by using different tags on different pages, for example, a Templates page and a Coaching page that each surface only the relevant products. --- ## How to create and manage product tags Product tags are created and managed from the **Monetize** tab, separately from individual products. 1. From the left panel, go to **Monetize >** [**Products**](https://app.beehiiv.com/monetize/products), then select [**Product Tags**](https://app.beehiiv.com/monetize/products/tags) under the **Manage** section. ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/41120088668695) 2. Click on the **Create tags** button. ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/41120088668951) 3. The Create product tags modal will open. Enter one or more tag names, separated by commas. You can create up to 10 tags at a time this way. ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/41120096183319) 4. When done, click on **Create** to save your tags. ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/41120088669975) 5. To edit or delete a tag, click on the **3 dots menu** next to the tag name. You'll have the choice to rename or delete your tag.  ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/41120096184983) > **Tech Note** > > Deleting a tag removes it from any products it was assigned to. --- ## How to assign tags to products Tags are assigned from your Products table, not during initial product creation. 1. From the left panel, go to [**Products**](https://app.beehiiv.com/monetize/products). 2. On the Overview page, locate the product you want to tag, click the **3 dots menu** on its row, and select **Manage tags**. ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/41120096185751) > **Tech Note** > > You may need to scroll to the right to find the **3 dots menu** associated with your product. 3. In the submenu, check the tags you want to assign. You can assign more than one tag per product. ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/41120096187287) To find a specific tag, you can use the **search bar** to locate a tag, or click on **\+ Create new tag** to create a new product tag.  ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/41120088674967) 4. From your account, go to **Website >** [**Builder**](https://app.beehiiv.com/website_builder_v2). 2. Select a **Products** block on the canvas, or add one from the left toolbar under **Content blocks > Synced data**. 3. Use the **Filter by tag** dropdown to select one or more tags. Only products assigned at least one of the selected tags will appear in the block. ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/41120096189207) 4. Click **Save** to save your selection, and remember to [publish your site](https://www.beehiiv.com/support/article/34055410040727-how-to-publish-your-website) to see your changes live.  > **Note** > > If a tag filter is active but no products have been assigned that tag, the block will display an empty state rather than showing all products. Assign the relevant tag to your products before publishing. --- ## Frequently asked questions about product tags How are product tags different from subscriber tags and content tags? beehiiv has three separate tag systems, each serving a different purpose: - **Product tags** label your digital products for organizational and filtering purposes in the Website Builder. - [Subscriber tags](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/22044432486295) label individual subscribers for audience segmentation and automation. - [Content tags](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/35382110798871) label newsletter posts to improve organization and help subscribers discover related content on your site. The three tag systems are independent of each other. Can I assign more than one tag to a product? Yes. You can assign multiple tags to a single product using the **Manage tags** option on the Products table. Does filtering by tag in the Builder affect which products are available for purchase? No. Tag filters only control which products are shown in a specific Products block on your site. Filtering does not affect a product's availability or its dedicated product page URL.
