How to publish a video podcast episode to Spotify
beehiiv hosts your podcast's audio feed and distributes it to Spotify and other listening platforms via RSS. Spotify also supports video episodes, but video files must be uploaded directly through Spotify for Creators. This article explains how to use both together so your podcast stays hosted on beehiiv while your Spotify listeners get the video experience.
How publishing a video podcast episode to Spotify works on beehiiv
Your beehiiv RSS feed distributes the audio version of each episode to Spotify and all other connected platforms. When you upload a video file for an episode in Spotify for Creators, Spotify automatically replaces the audio-only experience for Spotify listeners with the video version. No duplicate episodes are created, and your RSS feed is not affected.
Listeners on other podcast apps (not Spotify) will continue to receive the audio version distributed through your beehiiv RSS feed.
Before you start
You'll need:
- A podcast hosted on beehiiv with at least one published episode.
- Your podcast claimed in Spotify for Creators (see the Distribution tab in your beehiiv podcast dashboard to connect; refer to Creating a podcast on beehiiv for setup instructions).
- An MP4 video file for the episode you want to publish
To publish a video podcast episode
- Log in to Spotify for Creators: Go to creators.spotify.com and sign in. Select the podcast you want to manage.
- Open your episodes: From your podcast dashboard, navigate to the Episodes section. Spotify will display the episodes already published from your beehiiv RSS feed.
- Select the episode: Find the episode you want to add video to and open its details.
-
Upload your video file: Choose the option to add or replace media with a video file, then upload your MP4. Spotify will process the video and associate it with the existing episode from your RSS feed.
Tech Note: You do not need to create a second episode or publish a separate show. - Publish: Once processing is complete, publish the video version. Spotify listeners will now see the video experience for that episode.
