How to update your paid subscription settings
The Settings tab within Tiers contains account-level configuration for your paid subscription program, including the main enable toggle, checkout options, subscriber email reminders, and account-level actions.
To access these settings, go to Subscriptions > Tiers, then click the Settings section.
Enable paid subscriptions
The Enable paid subscriptions toggle controls whether new readers can purchase a paid subscription.
When this toggle is off, readers cannot initiate new paid subscriptions, but existing active subscribers are not affected. Their access and billing continue as normal. To stop billing for existing subscribers, you must cancel their subscriptions directly in your connected Stripe account.
Checkout and subscriber experience
These settings control how subscribers interact with your checkout flow.
Enable Apple Pay
Adds Apple Pay as a payment option on your Upgrade Page and in your Website Builder pricing blocks. Whether Apple Pay appears to a given subscriber depends on their browser and device. It is available on Safari and supported Apple devices.
Collect tax IDs
When enabled, subscribers can optionally provide a tax ID during checkout when upgrading to a paid subscription. The ID is saved to your connected Stripe account. To have tax information automatically added to invoices, complete Stripe Tax onboarding within your Stripe account.
Allow multiple recurring subscriptions
When enabled, subscribers can hold multiple recurring tier subscriptions at the same time. When disabled (the default), purchasing a new recurring subscription replaces any existing recurring subscription, regardless of tier.
Customize payment methods
Additional payment methods beyond card and Apple Pay can be enabled in your Stripe settings for use on Stripe's external checkout page. See Setting up a Stripe account for paid subscriptions and digital products for details.
Import paid subscriptions from Stripe
Use this tool to migrate existing paid subscribers from a previous platform's Stripe account to your beehiiv-connected Stripe account, with uninterrupted billing. Click on Start migration to begin.
Upsell emails
The upsell email is an automated reminder sent to free trial subscribers before their trial ends, prompting them to add a payment method and continue as a paid subscriber.
This section shows whether an upsell email is currently Active. Click on Edit free trial email to customize the subject line, content, and timing of the email.
Upsell emails only apply to free trials where no credit card was required at signup. Paid trials always require a card, so no upsell email is sent for those. See How to customize paid subscription offers for details on configuring free trial offers.
Paid trial reminder emails
The paid trial reminder email is an automated message sent to paid trial subscribers before their trial period ends, notifying them of their upcoming standard billing charge.
This section shows whether a paid trial reminder email is currently Active. Click on Edit paid trial email to customize the content and timing.
Cancellation actions
This section contains irreversible account-level actions. Both options are permanent and cannot be undone.
Cancel paid subscriptions: Cancels all active paid subscriptions in Stripe and downgrades all paid subscribers to the free tier.
Disconnect Stripe account: Removes the connection between your beehiiv account and your connected Stripe account. All tiers and pricing will be permanently deleted, and all paid subscribers will be downgraded to the free tier.
