Customizing your community's design

Your community's design sets the look and feel members see everywhere: the feed, channels, posts, and profiles. You choose your colors during setup, and you can change them at any time from the Design page. This guide covers everything you need to know about customizing the design of your community to your unique brand. 

You can access your community design settings in two locations: while creating your community, and then at any time from the community design page. 

1. In step 4 of your community creation onboarding, you’ll get the opportunity to set up your community design. 
   
   
   

1. From the left panel in your beehiiv account, open Community. 
2. Under Build, select Design.
   
   
   

The page shows your color controls on the left and a live preview of your community on the right. Changes appear in the preview instantly and are not visible to members until you select Save changes.

Your community theme is built from four colors that work in pairs:

Select any color swatch to open the color picker and choose a new value. Keep contrast in mind for each pair: text on background and text on primary need to stay readable against their partner color.

Select Import from website to pull your community colors straight from your beehiiv website theme. Your website's background, text, and primary colors are applied to the matching community colors, so your community matches your existing brand in one click.

Below the palette, choose from the custom-made palettes. Select a preset to apply all four colors at once. You can fine-tune any individual color afterward.

• The preview on the right shows your community as members will see it: the sidebar, feed, and post cards, all in your chosen colors.
• When you're happy, select Save changes. Your new design is live for members immediately.
• If you navigate away with unsaved changes, beehiiv asks whether you want to discard them, so you won't lose work by accident.
