The Review page is the final step in the Post Builder flow. It’s where you confirm all the choices made throughout your post creation and finalize your send — either by scheduling or publishing your newsletter.
The post flow in beehiiv is organized into 5 tabs at the top of the Post Builder: Compose, Audience, Email, Web, and Review. It’s designed to guide you step-by-step through building and launching a post using the Next button, though you can also click between tabs to jump to any stage of the process.
How to review and publish your post
- From your beehiiv account, create a new post draft or select to edit one of your saved posts.
Access the Post Builder
-
The Post Builder opens on the Compose page where you can create your post as usual or review your content. When you’re ready, click Next to move to the next stage.
Pro Tip: If you prefer to jump straight to the final review, click the Review tab now and skip to Step 6. - On the Audience page, choose who will receive your post for both Email and Web. Once your audience selections are set, click Next.
- On the Email page, you can fine-tune how your email will appear to subscribers. Customize the subject line with an (optional) A/B test, add preview text, and toggle your social sharing links on or off for the post.
After your sending details are to your liking, click Next to proceed. - The Web page lets you control how your post appears online. You can optimize SEO, adjust content gate settings, and even create an audio version of your post.
Once you’re satisfied with the web details of your post, click Review to move to the final step.
Publisher compliance reminder
- Once on the Review page, if your post includes an ad from the Ad Network, you’ll receive a quick reminder to follow beehiiv’s publisher guidelines. These help maintain ad quality and platform trust.
Review your audience selections
-
Under Review and Publish, you’ll see a summary of your audience selections. Click the dropdown arrow to expand the section and review your choices.
Tech Note: If you’re only sending via email or only publishing to the web, you’ll only see the relevant audience section here. - When sending to an Email audience, you’ll see which subscribers (free and/or paid) will receive your email post. If you included or excluded any segments, they’ll be listed here.
- When sending to a Web audience, you’ll see who can access your post on the web — again, based on free or paid status and segment settings.
- To make any changes, click Edit at the bottom of the audience section. This will return you to the Audience page to make modifications.
Review your basic post details
- Scroll down to the Post Details section and click the dropdown arrow to expand it.
- You’ll see key elements of your post including the Thumbnail, Title, Subtitle, and Authors.
If the Show thumbnail on top in web toggle is off (on the Web page), this section will indicate: Hidden on top in web. To change this, go back to the Web page and toggle it on.
Likewise, if you have modified the visibility settings for the title, subtitle, or authors on the Compose page, you’ll see a Hidden in email label next to those elements. - If you wish to make any edits, click Edit to return to the Web or Compose page and make changes.
Review your subject line and A/B tests
-
In the Subject line section, what you see depends on whether you're sending via email and if an A/B test was enabled.
Note: This section won’t appear if your post is only being published to the web.
If you are not running an A/B test, you’ll see your email subject line and preview text. Click Edit to make changes.
If you are running an A/B test, you’ll see all test details — including test audience size, remaining audience size, duration, subject line variants, and preview text.
Click Edit to update any test settings.
Save your style as a template (optional)
-
If you have made changes in the Style tab of your post, you’ll see options to save your changes as a template or set it as your new default template.
Tech Note: If you don’t save your style, changes only apply to the current post.
You can choose between:
- Save as default style: Makes this the new default template for future posts. Any new blank posts that you create will default to this stylization.
-
Save as template: Saves it as a custom template, accessible from your My templates page.
Preview your post and send a test (optional)
- You can preview your post and send a test email at any time. This is a best practice to ensure that your post will look exactly as you intend.
Click Preview in the top right to see how your post will look on the web and in email.
To send a test email of your post, click the arrow next to Preview to access your test sending options.
Schedule or publish your post
- When you're ready to send or publish, click Schedule at the bottom of the Review page.
- A modal will appear with these options:
Schedule for later: Click the calendar icon to choose a date and time. The Publish button will update to reflect your chosen schedule. Click on the Publish button to schedule your post.
Publish now: Click the Publish now tab, then click Publish Now to immediately send your post.
19. Once you’ve published your post, you’ll see a modal with options to share the web version of your post on the social media platform of your choice. You can select from several popular social media platforms to post directly, or you can click on the Copy button to copy a link that you can share on any platform.
Max and Enterprise users also have access to the AI Social Helper tool to automatically generate copy optimized to your preferred platform, purpose, and tone. Read our guide on how to share a newsletter post on social to get started.
Troubleshooting scheduling and publishing issues
If you click Schedule or Publish Now and your post does not publish, or it reverts to draft status shortly after, the most common causes are incomplete audience configuration or missing required fields. Follow the steps below to resolve the issue.
Check for incomplete post configuration
A post must have a valid audience and valid email and web settings to publish. If a required field is missing or invalid, beehiiv shows an error message when you try to publish or schedule.
To check your configuration:
- Open the post in the Post Builder.
- Click through the Audience, Email, and Web tabs to double-check your settings.
- On the Review page, expand the Review and Publish section to check your audience selections. Click Edit at the bottom of the audience section if you need to return to the Audience page and make changes.
Common configuration issues that block publishing:
- No audience selected: Removing all subscriber groups from both Email Audience and Web Audience leaves no one to send to. Select at least one audience (email or web) to publish.
- Empty email audience: If you select an Email Audience but there are currently no active subscribers in it, beehiiv blocks the post from publishing or scheduling and shows an error. Add subscribers to your email audience, or uncheck all options under Email Audience to publish as a web-only post.
- Missing subject line: If you selected an Email Audience on the Audience page, you must enter a subject line on the Email page. A blank subject line prevents publishing.
Check your audience before the scheduled send time
When you schedule a post for a future date and time, the audience you selected is subject to change if you gain or lose subscribers, or if a segment recalculates, before the scheduled send time.
- Both Email Audience and Web Audience selected: If your email audience has no active subscribers by the time the post is due to send, beehiiv automatically publishes the post to web only. No action is needed from you, but the post will not go out by email in this case, and any newsletter list tied to the email send is cleared from the post.
- Email Audience only selected: If it has no active subscribers by send time, the post moves back to draft instead of attempting to send to no one.
To avoid either scenario, make sure your audience will still have active subscribers at send time, or review your segment settings ahead of the scheduled send.
Wait a few minutes
Publishing is not always instant, especially during high-traffic periods. Allow a few minutes past the scheduled time before troubleshooting further.
Contact support if the issue persists
If your post is correctly scheduled and configured but does not publish within a reasonable window of the scheduled time, please use the chatbot to help you reach out to beehiiv support, or access the Help page in your account. Include the post title and scheduled time in your support request.
