Syncing your newsletter and podcast content into your community
Your community shouldn't live in a separate silo from the content you're already creating. With sync settings, every newsletter issue and podcast episode you publish can automatically flow into your community, turning each send into a ready-made discussion post. No manual cross-posting, no extra steps: just set it up once, and your existing content keeps your community active and full of things to talk about.
This guide walks through turning on sync for both newsletter posts and podcast episodes, importing your catalog to jumpstart a new community, and what to expect once syncing is live.
Open Sync Settings
- In your beehiiv dashboard, open Community from the left navigation.
- Under Configure, select Content Sync.
Sync your newsletter posts
- Switch on Auto-publish new posts: When a newsletter post is published, it is also published to your community automatically.
- Choose a Publish to channel: The channel that receives synced posts. By default, synced posts go to your community's Newsletters channel (created during setup, when syncing is on).
Synced posts appear in the feed with the full newsletter post attached, so members can read and discuss each issue without leaving the community.
Import your past posts
Use Add past posts for a one-time import of your existing newsletter archive into your chosen channel:
- Select Sync newsletter posts under Add past posts.
- beehiiv imports your published posts in the background, newest first. Large archives can take a little while.
Sync your podcast episodes
If you host your podcast on beehiiv, every new episode can automatically become a community post, no cross-posting required.
- Sync new podcast episodes to your community: If you have more than one show, you'll see a toggle per show.
- New episode sync: New episodes post to your Podcasts channel, created automatically. All synced shows share this one channel, newest episode on top.
- Included with each episode: Each episode posts with its title, a short description members can expand, and an inline player, with comments open so members can listen and discuss right in the community.
- Auto-created community post: The auto-created post is a normal community post: you can edit its headline or description afterward, and your edits stick.
- Future episodes only: Past episodes are not imported.
- Premium episodes: Paid podcast content syncs too.
Sync during setup
You can turn on newsletter syncing (and backfill) when you first create your community: the setup wizard's Build step includes both options. For more information, see Creating your community on beehiiv.
