Navigating your community as a member

A beehiiv community is built around a few simple pieces: a feed of posts, channels that organize the conversation, and your fellow members. Here's the lay of the land.

Community sidebar

Everything starts from the sidebar (on mobile, the menu):

  • Community feed: home to all posts.
  • Messages: your direct and group messages. Read Direct and group messages for more information.
  • Events: the community's event calendar, when the owner has one set up.
  • Notifications — replies and  reactions with an unread count on the bell. See Managing your community notifications for more details
  • Channels: the community's topic areas, listed so you can jump straight in.
  • Search: find posts, comments, or members.

Community feed

The feed is where everything comes together, newest first, in two tabs:

  • For you: posts from across the community.
  • Following: posts from members you follow. Follow people from their profile, and this tab becomes your personal front page.

Community channels

Channels are focused areas within the community: a general hangout, topics, announcements. A post made in a channel also appears in the Feed, so you never miss things by staying in one place.

  • Open a channel from the sidebar to see just its posts.
  • If the owner syncs their newsletter, you'll also see a Newsletters channel where every issue lands, ready to discuss. Communities with a podcast can have a Podcasts channel too, with episodes you can play right in the post.
  • Some channels are locked to a paid tier. You can see they exist; upgrading unlocks them. See Joining a beehiiv community for how paid access works.

Posting

Select Post and a modal will open. Give it a title, and share what you are thinking about. You can format text, add images (up to 10 MB), GIFs, emojis, and links, and choose which channel your post belongs in.

Two things worth knowing:

  • Reposting. See a post worth amplifying? You can repost it with your own thoughts: the original appears inside your post, credited to its author.
  • Editing. You can edit or delete your own posts and comments any time from their action menu. Edited content is marked as edited.
Pro Tip: Make sure to follow any community guidelines posted by your community admin.

Comments and reactions

  • Comment on any post, or reply to a comment to keep a thread going.
  • React to posts and comments. Sometimes that's all a good post needs.
  • Occasionally an owner closes comments on a post. The discussion stays readable, but new comments are off.

Search

Open search and type what you're looking for: it covers posts, comments, and members, with trending posts surfaced before you even type. From member results you can jump to a profile or start a message.

Your member menu

Your avatar opens the member menu: edit your profile, adjust your settings, or leave the community.
