Managing your community members
The Members page is your community roster: who's in, how active they are, and the tools to keep the community healthy. This guide covers everything you can do to manage your members permissions.
Open the Members page
- In your beehiiv dashboard, open Community from the left navigation.
- Under Manage, select Members.
You'll see every member with their status, role, last active time, and join date.
Your team joins automatically
When your community is created, everyone on your publication's workspace is added as a member with a role that matches their workspace role:
| Workspace role | Community role |
|---|---|
| Admin | Admin |
| Member | Moderator |
| Contributor | Moderator |
You don't need to invite your team: they're in from day one, with the permissions to help you run the space. If someone shouldn't have moderation powers (for example, a guest author), an admin can change their role to member at any time. See Community member roles and permissions for more information.
Find members
- Search by name or email.
- Filter by status: All members, Active, Removed, or Pending (invited but not yet joined).
- Filter by role: All roles, Admin, or Moderator.
The Pending view shows your outstanding invites. For inviting and resending, see How to invite your subscribers to your community.
Ban a member
When you feel it necessary to remove a member for a rules violation, banning the member is your tool to do so. A banned member loses access to the community entirely: no viewing, no posting, no gated content. Their past posts and comments stay in place.
- On the Community members page, open the member's 3 dots menu and select Ban.
-
Optionally add a Reason (for example, repeated spam). The reason is visible to other admins, not to the member. Click Ban to confirm.
Note: If the member paid for community access through a subscription tier, review their subscription as part of the removal.
A few details:
- Removed members appear under the Banned filter with their reason, so you keep an audit trail.
- To reinstate someone, find them under Banned and select Unban from the members 3 dots menu. They regain access and can participate again.
